Things have been moving in a positive direction between Trey McNutt III‍ all month and that trend continued when the 2025 Ohio athlete made his way to South Bend on Wednesday.

The Shaker Heights High School standout has been in touch with Irish Director of High School Scouting Dre Brown for several weeks. Earlier in the month he learned of his offer from Notre Dame and he announced it on St. Patrick’s Day while also locking in a trip to campus to check out a spring practice.

“Everything went good,” the 6-foot, 180-pounder said. “Coach (Brown) showed me around campus a little bit. It was beautiful.

“I got to hang out with the coaches, watch practice. Practice was great. I ate, the food was good. I just had a good time.”

Brown was with McNutt most of the day.

“He was just taking me through the process really,” McNutt said. “Walking me through and explaining everything.

“He's a really cool guy. I like to be around him, he seems like he gets along good. I would love to hang out with him more.”

The Cleveland native also had an opportunity to speak with safeties coach Chris O’Leary.

“We talked a little bit about the game, how they use their safeties there, how they develop good people,” McNutt said of himself and O’Leary. “It seems great. Everything was just really good.”

In addition to Notre Dame, McNutt has several other offers including schools like Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Arkansas and Purdue among others.

He made trips to Northwestern and Wisconsin before Notre Dame and is planning to hit Pittsburgh next.

He also plans on returning to South Bend in the fall.

“I'll definitely be down for a game day visit.”
