While several recruits flocked to South Bend on Saturday to check out Notre Dame and the Irish’s scrimmage.

2025 Oklahoma tight end Nate Roberts‍ made a weekend out of it, arriving a day early.

The Washington High School standout was spent plenty of time Friday with Notre Dame assistant Marty Biagi, who ate dinner with Roberts and gave him a full tour of campus, along with Irish offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Gerad Parker.

Roberts also had the chance to have meetings with Director of Recruiting Chad Bowden and head coach Marcus Freeman.

“Chad Bowden did a meeting with us also just about Notre Dame,” the 6-foot-6, 225-pounder explained. “I had good football talks with Coach Freeman and Coach Parker.

Freeman’s message was a relatively simple one.

“That Notre Dame will do more than just football,” Roberts explained. “If I have the opportunity to go to Notre Dame that it'll help me so much throughout my older years in business and getting a job in general.”

Meanwhile, Parker talked about his background and how he believes Roberts, who has an Irish offer, could help the offense.

“A lot of guys who get recruited are either in-line tight ends or flex tight ends who don't block much,” Roberts said. “Coach Parker feels I can do both very well, which will fit and help his offense a lot. With my weight and size and with how I move, he thinks I can help a lot in his offense.”

Roberts also has offers from schools like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, TCU, Georgia, Penn State and Michigan among several others.

On Saturday morning, Roberts was able to sit in on the team meeting and watch Freeman address his players.

“I'm a big fan of how he talks to his players and how he coaches them,” Roberts said. “I like his coaching style. I'm a big fan of that.

“Then, after that, I got to sit through a tight end meeting with Coach Parker while he was coaching those guys up, which was awesome. I love how Coach Parker coaches his guys. He's really down to earth with them and really makes sure that they understand the concept of the play. I'm a big fan of Coach Parker's offense. I'm a big fan of Coach Parker's and his wide receiver background. I think it's just a great offense for me to be in.”

Not surprisingly, Roberts is a big fan of how the Irish have historically used tight ends and Parker’s plans moving forward.

“I feel like he does like 50/50 on each,” Roberts explained. “He does block a lot with his tight ends and he really coaches them on blocking, but he also recruits tight ends who can run routes really well.

“That's what we do in my high school. We do 50/50 block and run routes. I think with that not really changing a lot, it would be an even easier pick for me to pick Notre Dame.”

After the tight ends meeting, Roberts headed out to watch practice.

“I loved how they scheduled the practice,” he said. “It was really nice weather that day. The tight end group looks really good. I was a big fan of their practice.”

Roberts is expecting Parker and Biagi to make a stop down at Washington High School to check him out this spring.

“Then, I think after they come see me, we'll try to get back up to Notre Dame as quick as possible,” he said.

Roberts has already narrowed his list a bit.

“I think I know my top three to five and Notre Dame is definitely in my top three,” he said.

“We're going to start focusing on those schools right now and just see how it goes from there.”
