When Jack VanDorselaer‍ met with Marcus Freeman during his visit to Notre Dame this past weekend, the Irish head coach asked him what he was looking for in a college. So, the 2025 Texas tight end told him.

“I told him the culture of the team and how the players treat each other when a player does good or does bad,” VanDorselaer explained.

“He basically said, ‘Everyone I bring in is going to be a good person, player, coach or staff member. We’re always going to treat you well here.’”

Freeman also spoke about what else the Irish can offer.

“He was talking about the degree I would get from Notre Dame and how that would carry into life after football,” VanDorselaer recalled. “Football is going to end eventually.

“I had a question about coaches leaving a lot. He was basically telling me how they deal with that and how to fall in love with the school, not the coach, to fall in love with a program that has a history of producing talent. Notre Dame will always be Notre Dame no matter what coach they bring in. A different school will always be a different school no matter who they bring in.”

The Southlake Carroll standout has offers from Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Miami and Colorado among others.

The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder had the chance to tour campus, sit in on meetings and check out the Irish’s Saturday practice.

“It was really cool,” he said. “I really liked it.”

He also met with Irish offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Gerad Parker.

“He was telling me the facts of the school and how they use the tight end and how they produce NFL tight ends like Michael Mayer, who is going to go in the first round,” VanDorselaer said. “He was telling me how they would use me in their offense and how I would fit into their program.”

“He basically told me it’s up to me, but he said, ‘We see you being like a Swiss Army Knife, being able to block and catch, being able to do all sorts of different screens.’”

VanDorselaer said he will “for sure” return, but isn’t exactly sure when.

“I would definitely love to see their game atmosphere and how they roll on game day,” he said.

VanDorselaer is looking forward to learning more about Notre Dame, talking to the players and then comparing it to the other schools on his list.

“I really liked it. I’ve just got to see a little bit more of the school before I can make a decision.”
