Offensive tackle is at the top of the list for recruiting needs in the 2024 class for Notre Dame. That makes adding a commitment from Styles Prescod‍ a critical win for Joe Rudolph and the Irish coaching staff.

An in-state prospect with offers from programs like Alabama, Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn State, and Michigan, Prescod has a ton of room for growth with his game and the traits to play left tackle at Notre Dame.

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 280

Projected Position: Offensive tackle

ISD Grade: 91 (4-star)

National Average Grade: 86.3 (4-star)

*Note, he is a composite 4-star prospect, but F5’s rankings algorithm does not include On3 at this time

What he does best:

There’s a level of “want to” that is necessary to succeed as a run blocker at the major college level. It has to be there even when one may not have the best fit with a block or when going against someone who is working hard to not stay blocked. I see that from Prescod frequently with how he fights to sustain and adjust his block in the run game.

Finishing matters and he has that extra bit of nasty to put defenders on the ground. He’s got an edge to his game.

All of that is great and important, but it’s that combined with the athletic piece that makes him an exciting prospect. He can reach edge defenders, displays light feet in pass protection, and can get out to the second level with ease.

What he needs to improve:

Prescod is going to need to be built up in pass protection. He has the most critical part down with his feet and should be able to mirror rushes effectively, but he lacks polish with punch and can let defenders get to his chest too often. It’s going to be interesting to see how much he improves in this area as a senior.

He can get a bit out of control with his footwork from being overaggressive in the run game. That’s a fairly common deficiency that is very fixable.

He wins with size, but he doesn’t have the kind of functional strength yet to dominate at the point of attack. His physical development is going to be critical for him over the next few years.

What’s his ceiling?

It says a lot about Prescod as a prospect that Harry Hiestand, who was as patient and particular as an evaluator as any offensive line coach in the country, saw Prescod as someone worth offering before many other prospects who had a higher consensus ranking than him. It's also not a coincidence that once Notre Dame offered, several other top programs offered shortly after.

In a cycle with a lack of elite tackle prospects, Prescod has the tools to develop into a future pro as a left tackle. He has the frame, the feet, and the arm length at the position as well as the mentality as a run blocker that many who can move like him don't have.

He's going to take some time to develop technically, but the traits are there for him to become a starter at left tackle for the Irish. With that being a critical position of need in this class, landing a commitment from him is significant.
