Isiah Canion‍ ‍wasn’t even planning to be in South Bend before the day that proved pivotal in the 2024 Georgia receiver’s recruitment, eventually leading to his commitment to Notre Dame on Thursday afternoon.

The Warner Robins High School standout gives the Irish 11 commitments in the Class of 2024 and a pair of wide receivers, joining Illinois’ Cam Williams.

The Irish were the first major Power 5 program to extend an offer to the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder, who was well on his way to seeing a true surge in his recruitment with offers from Florida State, Stanford, NC State, Duke and Mississippi State coming this month alone.

The Notre Dame offer made a major impression on Canion from the start.

“It's Notre Dame, dude,” he told Irish Sports Daily. “Like, that's crazy. It a big deal to me.”

Canion was heading to Indiana University for the Hoosiers’ Junior Day in Bloomington last month when he got in touch with Notre Dame Director of Recruiting Chad Bowden.

“He was like, 'Are you in Indiana?' I was like, 'Yessir,’” Canion recalls. “He was like, 'Bro, get up here.' And I was like, 'Yessir.'”

The Warner Robins High School enjoyed that trip to South Bend and left with an offer from the Irish. By the time he returned for last weekend’s spring game, Notre Dame had surged to the front of the pack and was able to wrap up his commitment.

Irish receivers coach Chansi Stuckey is from Warner Robins and Canion’s new head coach, Shane Sams, has relationships with Stuckey and Notre Dame offensive coordinator Gerad Parker.

Part of the reason Canion’s recruitment got such a late start was the fact that he played quarterback for much of last season at Warner Robins due to an injury to their starter. But he’ll be a receiver all the way in South Bend.

“The physical tools are there,” Warner Robinson assistant DJ Hazelway told Irish Sports Daily. “Smart kid, works hard in the weight room, got the leadership skills, just a trustworthy kid.”

The three-star prospect certainly has the tools to become a productive receiver as he recently ran a verified 4.51 40-yard dash, 4.25 shuttle drill while recording a 34-inch vertical and a 125-inch broad jump.
