Notre Dame DE Isaiah Foskey Drafted By New Orleans
Notre Dame defensive end Isaiah Foskey is headed to New Orleans.
The Saints selected the 6-foot-5, 265-pounder with the No. 40 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Foskey ended his career at Notre Dame as the program’s leader in all-time sacks with 26.5 as he broke Justin Tuck’s record in his final home game in an Irish uniform.
For his career, Foskey tallied 122 tackles and 31.5 tackles for loss in addition to the 26.5 sacks.
"The part of my game that will translate the best to the NFL is just getting to the quarterback any type of way,” Foskey said at the Senior Bowl..“That's what I'm good at. That's what a lot of people see on film. That's what a lot of edge rushers dream about and always work on. We're pass rush specialists. I feel I do a great job having natural talent to get to the quarterback."
Foskey also became the first player in Notre Dame history to block two punts in one as he accomplished the feat against UNLV. The California native blocked four kicks during his time in South Bend.
The value on special teams is rare for a defensive end, but Foskey’s athleticism and desire to play in the third phase of the game is an added bonus.
"I like kickoff and punt return a lot, but any special teams, I'll be willing to help the team out to win the game,” Foskey stated. “Punt return, I love. This year I was able to block two punts, which was a game-changing type of thing. Blocking punts is always fun."
