- Florida State got a strong pitching performance from Jackson Baumeister on Friday night as he went 6.0 innings while giving up just four hits, one run and struck out nine Irish batters. Notre Dame will need to figure out a way to get to the Florida State pen sooner in game two as the Irish likely hold an advantage there.

The Irish offense was able to get baserunners, but batted just 1-for-15 with runners on base and 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. That will need to improve in game two and three.

Freshman Estevan Moreno continued to show his growth as he went 2-for-4 with a home run and brought in both of Notre Dame’s runs. Zack Prajzner recorded two hits and DM Jefferson chipped in with a double to improve his batting average to .281 on the year.

Notre Dame got great performances on the mound from LHP Aidan Tyrell and RHP Radek Birkholz as they held the Noles to three runs. Tyrell (7-2) went 7.0 innings giving up five hits, three runs, four walks and three strikeouts on 89 pitches as he steps into a starting role for Jack Findlay. Birkholz went 2.0 innings giving up zero hits and striking out one.

- Saturday is important as Notre Dame can’t afford to lose the series and it will come down to putting runs on the board. The Irish will need more from the top of its lineup as TJ Williams, Carter Putz, Jack Penney and Vinny Martinez combined to go 0-for-15 on Friday night.

RHP Blake Hely will make his 11th start of the season and he’s started to find a flow on the mound. Hely leads the Irish in innings pitched (46.2) and holds an ERA of 4.82 entering Saturday’s contest. Notre Dame hasn’t named a starter for Sunday, so all options could be on the table for relief work. If the Irish are in a close game, RHP Caden Spivey seems the most likely to get work as RHP Carter Bosch started last Sunday. Regardless, Notre Dame needs to get runs on the board in game two to even the series.
