Micah Shrewsberry and the Notre Dame men’s basketball program are on the board again.

On Tuesday afternoon, Carey Booth‍ announced his commitment to the Irish.

The 2023 stretch-four’s commitment comes a day after Braeden Shrewsberry, Micah’s son, officially announced his pledge to the Irish. Both Booth and the younger Shrewsberry were committed to the Nittany Lions before Shrewsberry took the job in South Bend.

“Notre Dame, it was similar to why I committed to Penn State originally, it came down to coaching,” Booth said. “I really built a good relationship with Coach Shrewsbury and the rest of the coaching staff. I just feel like he could put me in the best position so I can further my game and get to where I want to go.

“Obviously he's worked with the Boston Celtics, he's been on the coaching staff at Butler. Obviously, he's been around Indiana before, so he's worked with players who have gone to that level, like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. He's also been around other great coaching minds, like Brad Stevens. With what he's learned from the people he's been around and also the people he's helped developed, I have confidence in him that he can help me get to that point.”

Booth, who starred at Brewster Academy (N.H.) this past year, was also impressed with the Nittany Lions’ performance under Shrewsberry.

“He took a team that hadn't really been to the Tournament in over a decade and brought them to the Tournament, so that was a good thing,” Booth said.

The 6-foot-10, 200-pound certainly puts the “stretch” in stretch-four.

“I feel like the primary part of my game is my shooting,” he said. “I feel I have a good combination of size, skill and athleticism. I'm very athletic. I can put my head above the rim. I can play all over the floor. Just that and bringing more energy to the game and more spacing.

He took an official visit to Notre Dame last week.

“It was a really nice campus; all the brick buildings have the same pattern,” said Booth. “Obviously Touchdown Jesus is the big monument everyone like looks at on the campus. Also, the academics were impressive too, so I liked that.”

In addition to Shrewsberry and Booth, the Irish are also chasing former 2023 Nittany Lions signee Logan Imes. Booth would love the chance to play with both in South Bend.

“It would definitely be really nice to do that. I was really looking forward to playing with those guys at Penn State and hopefully we can get the same thing at Notre Dame.”
