The Notre Dame basketball program landed its third commitment in as many days on Wednesday as Logan Imes announced his decision to join the Fighting Irish.

The 2023 Indiana guard joins Braeden Shrewsberry and Carey Booth, who announced their commitments on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

Like Shrewsberry and Booth, Imes had been committed to Penn State when Micah Shrewsberry was the Nittany Lions head coach and reopened his recruitment upon Shrewsberry being hired by the Irish.

Zionsville High School head coach JR Howell spoke with Irish Sports Daily about the 6-foot-5 guard’s decision on Wednesday.

Shrewsberry’s presence in Happy Valley played a major role in Imes’ commitment to Penn State, so it was no shock to see him end up in South Bend.

“Being an Indiana school, being close to home and having that support, I think that's a huge plus,” Howell said. “Teaming up with Coach Shrews and the vision he has for the program and his style of play is going to fit with Logan really well. Then, I think number three, you just look at the conference as a whole; it's more up-tempo, it's more five-out with some bigs who can shoot and make plays on the perimeter. I think that that fits Logan's game pretty well.

“I think those are some of the main points of why I think it's a good fit for him. I'm excited to see what he can do there.”

Howell says Irish fans will like Imes’ approach to the game.

“They should expect a tenacious competitor, a player who's not really concerned with how many points he scores or the stats,” the coach says. “He's more concerned about what kind of plays to make to get the team to win.

“I've said it before, but I think he's a pretty unselfish player in the fact that if he really wanted to, he could have averaged 20-plus a game for us and looked to score a lot more than what he did. But to have sustained success with the competition that we play against, he knew it was going to have to take a total team effort.

“That's what they're going to get at Notre Dame a guy who's going to make the winning plays and put his teammates in positions to be successful and in return it's going to make him successful.”
