For the fourth straight day, the Notre Dame men’s basketball squad has added a commitment, but Thursday’s commitment was a bit different.

After receiving pledges from a trio of prospects in the Class of 2023 earlier in the week, Micah Shrewsberry and the Irish are now on the board in the Class of 2024 with the commitment of Cole Certa‍.

“It feels amazing,” Certa told Irish Sports Daily. “I'm super excited and just blessed for this opportunity.

Certa, a 6-foot-5 guard from Illinois, chose Notre Dame over offers from schools like Illinois, Butler, Northwestern, Nebraska, Penn State and others.

“The relationship piece was huge for me,” Certa said. “They recruited me at Penn State and I just felt like a priority and they were just very, very consistent and very honest with me. That was just a huge part of it.”

Certa averaged 26.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season for Central Catholic High School in Bloomington, Ill.

“They think I'm a team guy, a guy who can pass, dribble and shoot,” Certa said of the Irish coaches. “If you watch how (Shrewsberry) coached at Penn State, they shoot a lot of threes. They're very skilled and I think I can fit perfectly into his system.”

Certa made a visit to South Bend last week.

“I loved it,” he said. “I loved the campus. I loved everything. It's a feeling that you really can't explain; it just feels like home. It was awesome. I loved it.”

Certa is excited to have his recruitment behind him.

“It was a long process,” he said. “It could be stressful at times, but I tried not to look at it like that. I'm just super happy now. It's time to work really hard and just can't wait to put on that blue and gold.”

While Certa was recruited by Shrewsberry to play at Penn State, he also represents the first prospect Shrewsberry has landed who wasn’t previously committed to him.

Braeden Shrewsberry, Carey Booth and Logan Imes announced their pledges on consecutive days earlier in the week. Each had been committed to the Nittany Lions prior to Shrewsberry leaving Penn State to take the job at Notre Dame.
