Kebba Njie Commits to Notre Dame

It will likely be a few years to know whether or not Micah Shrewsberry and his staff deciding to take several players with Penn State ties will pay off, but in the present, Notre Dame needs to form a roster. 

Kebba Njie, a 6-foot-10 power forward, is the latest to give his commitment to Notre Dame as he committed to the Fighting Irish on Saturday evening, which wasn’t a surprise to most who have been following Shrewsberry’s moves. 

As a freshman at Penn State last year, Njie averaged 3.4 ppg and 3.5 rpg as he made 26 starts and appeared in 37 games for the Nittany Lions. 

Njie scored a career-high 12 points against Loyola Maryland in November and then pulled down a career-high in rebounds (9) against Indiana in March. 

The Centerville (Ohio) native recorded eight points and three rebounds against Texas A&M in the opening round upset of the Aggies in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Njie then was held to zero points and zero rebounds in 12 minutes in Penn State’s five-point loss to Texas in the Round of 32. 

Notre Dame lost fellow sophomore Ven-Allen Lubin to the Transfer Portal, so Njie will essentially fill that role. Lubin averaged 6.2 ppg and 4.4 rpg in 28 games for the Irish last season. 

Njie played two seasons at national powerhouse La Lumiere (Ind.) and was a consensus four-star prospect coming out of high school. In fact, Njie was the second highest-ranked signee in Penn State history. Per 247 Sports, Njie held offers from Butler, Kansas State and Penn State out of high school. 

Notre Dame landed Northwestern guard transfer Julian Roper II last month and then flipped forward Carey Booth, guard Logan Imes and guard Braden Shrewsberry from Penn State in addition to 2023 guard signee Markus Burton. The Irish also landed a commitment from 2024 guard Cole Certa last week.
