Bodie Kahoun‍ had an idea where he wanted to go.

Even after scheduling four official visits in the month of June, the 2024 Virginia had a pretty good idea of where he was going.

By late last week, Kahoun knew for sure.

“I just couldn't get Notre Dame out of my mind,” Kahoun says. “I knew I wanted to go there and I was like, 'I'm ready.'”

So, after a call with the Notre Dame coaching staff late Thursday night, Kahoun made his commitment to to the Irish public on Monday morning

“Just the opportunity that it's going to put me in in the real world after college and how much it's going to set me up for life and the relationships with the coaches,” Kahoun explains further. “Really, it's Notre Dame. It's pretty hard to beat. I personally thought it was just a no-brainer for me.

“It's known globally. Football's going to end one day. A degree from there will set me up for life for the jobs I want to pursue.”

Kahoun points to head coach Marcus Freeman, defensive coordinator Al Golden and linebackers assistant Max Bullough as the coaches he formed the strongest bonds with.

“Really, the guys I'll spend most of my time with, which is good because they're basically going to be my teachers for the next four years,” he says.

“They showed how much they cared about me and how much they legit talked and not just sending ghost texts. They truly wanted me. They told me that multiple times. I felt wanted and I feel like you want to go to a place where you wanted most and they showed me that.”

The Patrick Henry High School star likes the fit on the field as well.

“I like their defense overall,” he says. “It's very similar to ours. It's a 4-3, so I'm looking forward to that. I've kind of got it locked into my head already. I've just got to learn the playbook and I feel like I'll be set to go.”

Kahoun had planned to take officials to Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Tennessee and Notre Dame next month before discussing everything with his family last week.

“My parents and I sat down for a couple hours and just talked business and they said, 'Once you're ready, we're ready,'” he recalls.

“And then we just pulled the trigger.”

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder says he caught the Irish staff off guard when he called around 10 pm on Thursday night.

“Everyone was like, 'Whoa! We didn't expect it,'” he laughs. “They were great. They were super, super pumped about it.”

He’s already heard from the other members of Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class.

“It's been great. They've all reached out and they've all been super kind and nice to me.”
