2024 Notre Dame DT Target Sean Sevillano Jr. Ready To Make Decision On Gut
Sean Sevillano Jr. had a plan, but the 2024 defensive tackle was ready to make an adjustment if he felt one was necessary.
Born in Canada, the 6-foot-2, 300-pounder has emerged as a national prospect while playing at Clearwater Academy International in Florida.
He scheduled three official visits for the month of June – to Ohio State, Notre Dame and Auburn – and he also left open the possibility of adding more. But it always seemed more likely Sevillano would take less than add more and that’s what he will do.
Sevillano will announce his college decision on June 2nd, choosing between the Irish, the Buckeyes, the Tigers and Miami. He tells ISD he will only take an official to the school he announces for on Friday.
“At every place, a big thing for me is people,” Sevillano told ISD. “I think at each place, the people are great, high-level programs with great d-line coaches and overall, I think I could see myself succeeding at all the schools.”
But he also acknowledged what others have told us as well, he never really loved the recruiting process.
“It's the truth and it's not the truth,” he said. “It's stressful. It's stressful if I say so myself. It's really hard to make a decision in this process and it's very tough at times. That's where that comes from.
“But, I'm very appreciative of having that problem.”
Still, those feelings ensured he wouldn’t let the process extend much beyond the point when he knew where he wanted to go.
“I believe I can read situations and assess it properly,” Sevillano said, adding that he wouldn’t be making a decision unless he trusted the gut feeling in his stomach on where he should go.
So, clearly he trusts himself enough to make this announcement without the need to waste his time or the other schools’ time on the official visits.
Interestingly enough, Sevillano has already made one visit to South Bend and felt he learned enough about the program during that visit and through conversations with the staff to pick the Irish if that’s what his gut said.
The Irish coaching staff has made the biggest impression on Sevillano, who singled out head coach Marcus Freeman, defensive line coach Al Washington, defensive line assistant Nick Sebastian and defensive coordinator Al Golden. He said he believed that staff could prepare to play beyond college and pointed to Golden’s history in the NFL as further proof of that.
His planned official to Notre Dame was more about getting his parents on campus as well as him spending time with the players to “reaffirm” his initial thoughts.
We’ll find out Friday if he and his family take the Irish up on that opportunity.
