The Notre Dame Revenge Tour is complete.

Notre Dame lacrosse made history as the Fighting Irish defeated No. 1 Duke 13-9 on Monday to win its first national championship.

Chris Kavanagh, Eric Dobson, Jake Taylor, Jeffery Ricciardelli, Brian Tevlin and Quinn McCahon all scored two goals each while Jack Simmons added one goal as the Irish overcame 14 turnovers to secure the title.

The Irish were left out of the NCAA Tournament a year ago and the fire burned all year as the Kavanagh brothers kept a 2022 bracket in the back of their locker as motivation.

“We used it as motivation and kept it in the back of our minds,” stated Pat Kavanagh to ESPN following the win. “Every day we went to the locker room, put our gear on and saw that. It fueled us all year. I saw Duke didn’t like to talk about it, but we like to talk about it. I don’t want to talk about it anymore though. We won the national championship and that’s all that matters.”

Duke also outshot Notre Dame in the game 47-40, but the difference was senior goalie Liam Entenmann. The 6-foot-3, 192-pounder recorded 18 saves, which is the 4th-most in an NCAA Tournament game in program history.

Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan also finally won his first national title after taking over the Irish program before the 1989 season.
