Clearwater Academy International has sent dozens of kids to Division-I schools over the past several years, but none quite like Sean Sevillano Jr.‍

“He's the strongest kid we've ever had in our program,” head coach Jesse Chinchar says. “He's like a 700-pound deadlift, 600-plus pound squad guy. He is a 400-plus-pound bench press guy.

“Typically, when you hear guys who are that strong, you worry that they might not be twitchy or explosive, but he's super twitchy, he's very fluid. He's got really long arms, so he plays with great leverage.”

Sevillano backs his rare God-given physical traits up with intangibles of his own.

“We've had probably 50, 60 Division-I kids in the last five years and he's the hardest working kid we've ever had in the program,” says Chinchar.

Sevillano is set to announce his college choice between Notre Dame, Ohio State, Auburn and Miami on Friday.

“He is looking for best fit,” the coach says. “I think best fit for him is going to be system fit defensively and then he's a big culture guy. He's going to want to go somewhere where he feels he could be a part of something special in terms of the people he's working with and working towards a big goal together.”

The Irish have certainly made their arguments on why they believe they check those boxes.

“Him being a 4.0 kid, he obviously understands the importance of school,” Chinchar says.

And Chincar certainly understands why Notre Dame is pursuing Sevillano so seriously.

“What he does on the defensive line in terms of his ability to be strong at the point of attack and be twitchy and also do some movement stuff,” he says. “Then, in terms of who he is leadership-wise and character and grades.

“He is a 4.0 GPA kid. Any fundraiser or community service, he's the first one to volunteer. He does everything right.”

Sevillano will announce his decision at the end of the week, but Chinchar would understand if Notre Dame was the pick.

“It would make sense to me,” he says.

Chinchar only expects Sevillano to get better as he continues to learn the game more, which he already is, noting how much time Sevillano spends watching film.

“I think that that's an underrated piece of the game,” the coach says. “Now, the running back lines up slightly different, and Sean's calling it out to the entire defense.

“He's just that type of guy. He's an alpha captain. He's pretty special.”
