Notre Dame already had Aneyas Williams‍ committed to play running back in the 2024 class. He’s a very much a hybrid player who brings value as a receiver just as much as he does as a runner.

Kedren Young‍ is a different type of back, which makes him a fantastic compliment as the 1b in the 2024 class for Notre Dame. He’s a physical runner, but has some small back traits as well that make him a great prospect.

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 225

Projected Position: Running back

ISD Grade: 91 (4-star)

National Average Grade: 90.3 (4-star)

What he does best:

Relentless doesn’t often get used to describe a back’s running style, but it fits with Young. He is a beast after contact and he’s incredibly difficult to tackle not only because he’s big, but because he makes himself difficult to tackle with his effort.

He has good burst and when he sees a hole, he can stick his foot in the ground and explode up the field. He gets to top speed quickly for a big man.

These are the small back traits I was referring to. He has really good feet and he’s more than just a back who uses the truck stick to run over people. He can make defenders miss in the hole as well.

What he needs to improve:

He’s not a natural receiver and isn’t utilized in that department often. Obviously Williams is someone who can be used more in that role, but developing that part of Young’s game is going to be important if he wants to be a true three down back for the Irish.

What’s his ceiling?

He has the qualities to be a bell cow for Notre Dame. I know there are comparisons with him and Audric Estime and I certainly could see Young become a “4 minute O” closer like Estime is for the Irish, but I reminds me a bit more of Tony Jones as a runner, but faster.

I was a big fan of the underappreciated Jones’ game and I’m a bigger fan of the player I think Young can become running behind what is sure to be strong offensive lines for the Irish. I love this pickup for Notre Dame and think he’ll have a chance to contribute as a freshman.

Who he could be:

A faster Tony Jones Jr.
