Coach | New Notre Dame OL Commit Styles Prescod Is "A Worker"
Styles Prescod had a good idea where he wanted to go to college, but the 2024 Indiana offensive lineman wanted to be certain.
So, rather than making a commitment a couple months ago, Prescod let the process play out a bit longer and took some additional visits.
“I think it shows some maturity on his part,” said Mike Kelly, Prescod’s coach at Hamilton Southeastern High School said. “A lot of guys get that big offer of Notre Dame, big-time programs like that and they would jump at it. Instead, he kind of sat back just a little bit and reflected to make sure that was exactly where we wanted to be.
“He's not someone who wants to hop around every year. He's someone who wants to commit to where he is at and try to try and grow and become a better football player where he is. I think that's part of the reason why he wanted to wait, to make sure that's where he was going to fit in.”
By the time his official visit to Notre Dame this past weekend was complete, the 6-foot-6, 280-pounder was certain.
On Tuesday afternoon, he announced his commitment to the Irish.
“That's awesome for him,” Kelly said. “I'm excited.”
Kelly believes there were a few reasons that led to Prescod choosing the school a couple hours up the road.
“One being close to home and also the experience that have with the offensive line and the success they've had with offensive linemen who have had success in college as well as on the professional level,” said Kelly. “I think that's something that he's interested in and aspires to be. I think those are two very, very important things for him.
“But I also think that he fits in well with their coaching staff and the players there. He's excited to get with them.”
Kelly believes Irish fans should be excited about landing Prescod, who also had offers from schools like Alabama, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Colorado among others.
“He's very athletic for a big guy. He moves really well. He's got great feet, but he is also very aggressive and he works. He's a worker, plays with some emotion. He's a big-time football player.”
