Wade Waldrop is going to miss Bradley Shaw‍ when the 2024 Alabama linebacker graduates from Hoover High School next year.

“He has the ability to make every play on defense, and that's special,” says Waldrop, head coach at Hoover.

“He can make any play sideline to sideline and just that type of athleticism and talent is hard to regenerate every year. He is a great athlete. He can run, he can really move well. I think that's his biggest attribute.”

But as much as anything, Waldrop is going to miss Shaw as a person.

“He is a great kid, great family,” the coach says. “High, high character, very hard worker, just does things right.

“Just a good family, raised the right way, works the right way, does all those things really well.”

Shaw took an official visit to Notre Dame this past weekend. He also has offers from schools like Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Texas A&M, Duke and Stanford among several others.

Waldrop can’t say exactly why, but he knows Notre Dame is attractive to Shaw.

“I just know they've done a great job recruiting him and trying to form a relationship with him,” the coach says. “They've made him feel good, feel comfortable with them.

“They've got a good presence with him and with his family, and they've made a good impression on him. As far as what they're saying to him that makes him feel that way, I'm not sure. I just think he really likes the staff and I think there's just a good vibe there.”

Waldrop expects Shaw to improve as a player as he grows and continues to embrace all parts of being a linebacker.

“I think just playing more downhill is the biggest thing,” the coach says of the biggest room for growth. “I think he moves side to side and backwards as good as anybody. Getting him better downhill, I think is the number one point of emphasis we're going to have with him this season.”

It’s a point of emphasis that has already been made and one that Shaw has already taken to, according to his coach.

“Absolutely.”
