Notre Dame’s third official visit weekend will have all eyes on 2024 St. John Bosco (Calif.) linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa‍.

The four-star prospect will make his third trip to South Bend this weekend as Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC battle it out for  Viliamu-Asa’s commitment.

“I’m really excited,”  Viliamu-Asa told ISD. “This time is special because I’ll be able to get both my parents up there and they’ll be able to see it for themselves. It’s really exciting to get back to see the staff and school to get a feel for the program.”

Viliamu-Asa has seen many programs across the country, but having his parents experience his top three schools is extremely important as he heads into his decision-making process.

“It’s really big for me, especially for my dad because he’s never traveled to any of the schools my mom and I have been to,” stated Viliamu-Asa. “For him to get to Notre Dame and see where I could possibly end up in the next phase of my life is really important.”

As with most recruits, Viliamu-Asa values his parents feedback and wants them to be comfortable with his decision.

“At the end of the day, they’ve expressed they will support my decision 100 percent,” said Viliamu-Asa. “For me, the decision is more than just about me. This decision will affect me and my family for the rest of my life. I want their opinion on how it will affect all of us.

“We’re going to sit down as a family and talk about it to see where is best for me.”

Viliamu-Asa has experienced the Notre Dame spring game twice, which is a busy time for the staff and players as they have the game, but also other responsibilities during the weekend. This trip will allow all sides to dive deeper into Viliamu-Asa’s priorities as he looks to learn more about Notre Dame.

“I’ve been there a couple times and I’ve seen most of the university and the people,” Viliamu-Asa stated. “This is more about spending time with the coaching staff, getting around the players and getting a feel for how it is as a culture. Asking the players questions and getting all of our questions answered is the most important thing.”

Every recruit values comfort and Viliamu-Asa is no different than his peers. Comfort allows players to find success as no one will reach their potential if they aren’t comfortable in their setting - on or off the field.

Viliamu-Asa believes his time around Notre Dame’s players will allow him a glimpse of how he’d fit into the locker room and the university.

“I think just being around them, seeing how they think and what’s important to them will allow me to see if I click with them,” Viliamu-Asa explained. “I think I already do with some of the people from the West Coast and Cali, but at a place like Notre Dame, it’s different. You go to Notre Dame for all the right reasons, so I feel that culture is already established.

“Getting around them and asking questions about how it is every day is my focus.”

NIL is also a factor recruits have been prioritizing over the last few years, but the St. John Bosco star has his attention elsewhere.

“I’m looking beyond NIL and temporary things,” Viliamu-Asa said. “I’m really looking long-term and what I’d get out of a school as a whole. It’s much bigger than NIL for me.”

On the field, Viliamu-Asa’s top three schools have a long history of producing top linebackers and while the plan is similar, Notre Dame plans to use the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder a little differently if he ended up in a gold helmet.

“They all have similarities and carry over,” stated Viliamu-Asa. “Notre Dame’s type of defense is really catered to the players strengths. They showed me how they’d use me to put me in positions to succeed based on my strengths.

“I’d be used similar to how they use Marist (Liufau) where I can play in the box, but also play on the outside as well to be versatile between those two spots.”

As for a decision, Viliamu-Asa is planning to make his commitment next month following his final trips to see Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC.

“I’m aiming for July,” said Viliamu-Asa. “I definitely want to take my three official visits and make a decision. It will be before the season, but I haven’t set an exact date.”
