Safety Davis Andrews Talks Notre Dame, Possible Mission, Timeline & More

Davis Andrews‍ is wrapping up his official visit schedule, but the Utah safety isn’t necessarily on the verge of making a final decision, although one is still likely to come relatively soon.

Andrews has completed official visits to UCLA, Notre Dame and Utah with BYU coming up this weekend. He’ll likely have his college pick this summer, but it may not be right after the trip to Provo.

“Since I'm planning on going on a mission, I'm not really forced to make the commitment anytime, so I'll really just take my time,” Andrews told Irish Sports Daily.

“I feel like I want to know before my season where I'm going to be. I'm not really going to put a date on it, but I feel like once I know I'll know.”

Andrews is still technically a 2024 prospect, but if he takes his mission, he’ll essentially become a prospect in the Class of 2026.

“I feel like I'm definitely going to take the mission,” he reiterated. “Notre Dame was really good about it and really supportive of it, so that was really good for me.

“For me, personally, I'm a pretty young junior. My birthday's in March and I'm only 17, so when I'm back I'll still only be 19. I feel like it'll kind of just help me mature and be able to get some more good mass on me. I feel like it would just be good for me to be able to go out and kind of be out of my comfort zone, especially if I were to go to somewhere like Notre Dame.

“I feel like it really just helps kids mature the most. And for me, if I didn't go on my mission, I'd be pulling up to Notre Dame as a 17-year-old. So, I feel like honestly, it'll just be a good chance to be able to go mature and better yourself really.”

After a visit to South Bend back in April, Andrews returned for his official earlier this month.

“It was awesome being back out again with the coaches and especially a midweek visit,” he said. “It was definitely a lot of individual time and it was a really good visit and everyone was great.”

For Andrews, continuing to get around the coaches gives him a better feel for their personality outside of recruiting pitches over the phone. Hanging out with the current safeties at Chris O’Leary’s house certainly provided that peek.

“That was really good for me to be able to see how he actually really is with his players,” Andrews said of O’Leary. “I feel like that was really good to see and kind of being around them more so you can really get a gauge of who they are not instead of like just a phone call.

“O'Leary is a stud. He's one of my favorite coaches I've ever met. The whole staff, I've just always been very complimentary of them. It's hard coming out from Utah to Indiana, and I think they know that. So, they're all really good to me and my family.”

Andrews also enjoyed his visit to UCLA.

“That was a good trip,” he said. “That school is really cool. It's really easy to get there from Utah, which is a good bonus.”

And Utah.

“Utah's always been very good to go up to,” he explained. “They'll always be close, so it's not as exciting anymore because I've been up there so many times, but going up Utah is always good and their coaches have always been great.

“Utah's always been good because they were my first offer and I probably have the longest relationship with them.”

Andrews’ decision may not be imminent, but it’s coming and the Irish remain well-positioned.
