2024 LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa Talks Notre Dame, Ohio St., USC
Considering the importance and the difficulty of the decision he’s about to make, you’d probably expect Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa to be stressed out, but the 2024 California linebacker is keeping things in perspective.
“I'm still cool, calm and collected,” Viliamu-Asa told Irish Sports Daily this week.
The St. John Bosco High School star is closing in on choosing his college destination between Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC.
“All three of them are great universities,” Viliamu-Asa said. “I don't think I could make a wrong decision. It's just making sure the one I make is the right one.
“I'm just taking this week and next week to decompress, think about things, take everything into consideration and make a decision.”
Viliamu-Asa took official visits to all three schools last month - beginning with USC and ending with Ohio State with Notre Dame in between. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder said the visits actually made his decision more difficult.
“I think going into it I had somewhat of an idea, but I wanted to go into my visits with an open mind, just getting the final look at everything,” he said. “I found myself loving each one the same and loving every visit that I went on.”
He could see himself at each of the school’s during the visits.
“That's why I want to take these next two weeks to really think about things,” he said. “I didn't want to make an impulsive decision based off of how I was feeling right after I visited all three schools. I already wanted to take all three and then think about things talk with my family.
“If I have to get a whiteboard out with the pros and cons of every school, I will. I'm just really taking the next two weeks to take some time to decompress and really reflect on these last three weeks and possibly what I could do for my future.”
Throughout the process, Viliamu-Asa has been drawn to Notre Dame because of the overall package on and off the field in South Bend.
“I don't have to compromise there,” he said flatly. “They have a great staff, great people, a great opportunity on and off the field.
“I don't have to compromise the educational part or the football part. I get the best of both worlds.”
The Buckeyes have been recruiting him the longest and have been selling relationships and football.
“Ohio State is a really great program,” he said. “I think there too is a lot of opportunity on and off the field with the type of alumni they have and the type of football program they're known for.”
USC is trying to sell all that and the opportunity to remain on the West Coast.
“They have a great business school,” he said of the Trojans. “I don't have to compromise anything there. Staying close to home, being able to play for an historic program in my hometown and be able to play in the Big 10 against the good teams is what they're selling.”
