BREAKING | 2024 LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa Commits to Notre Dame
Notre Dame received some much-needed momentum this weekend as Logan Saldate’s commitment was the primer for the Irish to land arguably the nation’s top linebacker in 2024 St. John Bosco (Calif.) standout Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa on Sunday afternoon.
The 6-foot, 230-pounder chose the Fighting Irish over Ohio State and USC after taking official visits to all three programs in June.
On the field, Viliamu-Asa had similar pitches from his final three programs, but the ability to show him how they would move him around was vital.
“Notre Dame’s type of defense is really catered to the players strengths,” Viliamu-Asa stated. “They showed me how they’d use me to put me in positions to succeed based on my strengths.
“I’d be used similar to how they use Marist (Liufau) where I can play in the box, but also play on the outside as well to be versatile between those two spots.”
In fact, Notre Dame’s plan involves two coaches working with him as linebackers GA Max Bullough and defensive line coach Al Washington plan to develop the four-star prospect at both levels of the defense.
“Coach Bullough went over how he’d be my coach more so in the box and Coach Wash would be teaching more about pass rush and my toolset coming off the edge,” said Viliamu-Asa following his official visit.
“I love that. That’s all a part of my resources that I would have to be able to use and make me better as a player, to be able to have multiple things in my toolbox to make me more versatile and more valuable.”
Away from the field, the California native eventually wants to get back to Los Angeles and dive into the real estate market. The Mendoza School of Business was a major point of emphasis, but Viliamu-Asa also made sure to speak to several real estate figures in LA who hold a degree from Notre Dame.
“It’s definitely opened my eyes to the type of network at Notre Dame,” Viliamu-Asa said. “Just the type of people I’ve been able to meet and encounter.”
Bullough, Washington, Al Golden and Chad Bowden all played significant pieces in landing Viliamu-Asa, but Marcus Freeman’s relationship and ability to highlight Notre Dame proved to be the difference as the St. John Bosco star admitted to ISD in June that he didn’t have to sacrifice anything in South Bend.
“I don't have to compromise there,” said Viliamu-Asa. “They have a great staff, great people, a great opportunity on and off the field.
“I don't have to compromise the educational part or the football part. I get the best of both worlds.”
Viliamu-Asa gives Notre Dame a third linebacker commitment as he joins Bodie Kahoun and Teddy Rezac in the 2024 haul.
