It’s difficult to imagine Notre Dame doing a better job with Chris Burgess‍ than the Irish did when the elite 2025 Illinois defensive end visited for Sunday’s Grill & Chill event.

“I loved it,” the Chicago native told Irish Sports Daily. “ loved everything that happened there. It was fun too.”

The Simeon Academy star enjoyed the events at the start of the day the recruits competed in and was quick to say he helped his team to victory.

Burgess made the visit with his father. He and the other recruits then checked out other parts of campus.

“We did a photoshoot,” he said. “It was a nice photoshoot. I loved it, got some good pictures out of that. Got to see the stadium. We ate. The food was good there, so that was amazing.”

Burgess enjoyed the time he got to spend with the other recruits in attendance.

“I felt I fit in good,” the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder said. “Notre Dame is recruiting the right people. They're real nice and real cool.”

He also appreciated the relaxed atmosphere with which to spend time with the coaches.

“They were talking about what would happen if I came to Notre Dame,” he said, noting the staff is eager to speak with his mother as well.

Irish defensive line coach Al Washington has already made a tremendous impression.

“That's my guy,” Burgess said of Washington. “That's my dog. I love him.

“That's family. He treats me like family. I treat him like that. I love him.”

Burgess says Notre Dame is one of the schools “at the top of my list.”

He’s planning to return to South Bend for the Ohio State and USC games this fall so he can see them in action.

“Watching them up close to see how they play up close and see where I fit in,” he said.

He’s also planning to hit games at Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin and USC.
