Top 2019 CA DE Talks Recent Irish Offer
Some of the biggest schools in the country are already chasing Kayvon Thibodeaux and on March 2nd, Notre Dame joined the race for the 2019 California defensive end
“I got a text from my coach and he told me they wanted to offer me,” Thibodeaux said. “He gave me a number to call (Notre Dame assistant Brian) Polian.”
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound sophomore wasn’t able to catch up with Polian that day, but was looking forward to reaching him later and was certainly excited to add the Irish to his offer sheet.
“It was pretty good,” Thibodeaux said. “It’s an amazing feeling knowing that another college feels that I’m good enough to play at their school.”
The Los Angeles native also has offers from USC, UCLA, Cal, Washington, Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Miami, Michigan and Tennessee among others.
“The spotlight is kind of tough,” he acknowledged. “I’ve got to keep managing it well. I’ve got to maintain the spot I’m at.”
Even with an excess of options, Thibodeaux said Notre Dame is “100 percent” a school that he’ll take seriously.
“I know they have a great law program and their education is really high,” he said.
The Dorsey High School standout has already made trips to USC and UCLA and is looking forward to getting to South Bend at some point.
“There’s nothing on the schedule as of right now, but I’ll definitely try to get out there soon,” he said.
“I’d like to see the dorms, the classrooms and the weight room and stuff, the football facilities.”
Thibodeaux, who said he’s been clocked at 4.7 in the 40-yard dash, has been told by college coaches they like his speed and frame.
“They like that I’m fast,” he said. “I’m real fast. I’m long.”
He doesn’t have any leaders just yet.
“I’ve still got to do my research because I don’t really watch college football,” he said.
But knows he wants to put himself in a position to maximize his talents in the field.
“For me, it’s all about opportunity. Which colleges put the most d-linemen in the NFL and who has a defense that will fit me.”
