BREAKING | 2024 Guard Sir Mohammed Commits To Notre Dame
It’s been a great couple days for the Notre Dame men’s basketball program.
On Saturday night, top 2024 North Carolina guard Sir Mohammed announced his commitment, choosing the Irish over offers from schools like Villanova, Marquette, Virginia Tech, Stanford and Oklahoma among others.
The pledge from the 6-foot-6, 200-pound combo guard from Myers Park High School in Charlotte comes just two days after the Irish landed 6-10 Virginia power forward Garrett Sundra. They both join IMG Academy guard Cole Certa to give Notre Dame a trio of commits in its 2024 recruiting class.
Mohammed took official visits to Marquette and Notre Dame back in June before an official to Virginia Tech late last month.
Myers Park High School head coach Scott Taylor pointed to first-year Irish head coach Micah Shrewsberry as a major reason why Mohammed chose Notre Dame.
“Coach Shrewsberry has come in and really been able to put together a vision of what it looks like and the way he wants to play basketball,” Taylor said. “Obviously, they're seeing an increase in commitments and some guys who have skill sets that seem to fit the way that Coach Shrews played at Penn State. He recruited Sir hard while he was at Penn State. I think they have a strong relationship and that's been maintained.”
Taylor and Mohammed clearly like the direction of the program under Shrewsberry and the new Irish staff.
“They have some things that are intriguing,” Taylor said. “Obviously, it's a situation that is going to take some time, but if the relationships are in the right place with the right people and you get everybody on board, it can be a fun ride.”
Mohammed is the son of former NBA big man and Kentucky star Nazr Mohammed, who is currently the general manager of the Oklahoma City Blue of the G League and a scout for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
