Offensive tackle was circled by everyone who follows Notre Dame recruiting as priority in the 2024 class. Unfortunately it’s not exactly a loaded cycle at the position.
That made someone like Guerby Lambert one of the most coveted prospects on their board. The list of players with elite traits like him is a short one, which is why the Irish landing a commitment from him is as important as any they’ve secured this year.
With an 84-inch wingspan, plus athleticism, and the potential to develop into a multi-year starter, this is a huge pickup for the Irish coaching staff.

What he does best:
Lambert has light feet. He gets out quickly in his pass set and shows the ability to mirror pass rushers.
He’s an easy mover. He can get to the second level and lock on with linebackers as well as reach edge defenders because of his mobility.
The best part about his game as a run blocker is the leverage he plays with. He’s a knee bender who can get low with his pad level and can win even if he isn't initially off of the snap.
What he needs to improve:
Lambert doesn’t have explosive hip snap on contact. He’s not consistently shocking smaller defenders with power at the point of attack, but overcomes it with an effort to sustain blocks.
I think he is capable of being more dominant and I watched a couple of games where he ended up on the ground a bit too much.
He has fantastic tools to develop into an elite pass protector, but he hasn’t been tested by good competition and can lean a bit too much with his upper body. He also needs to develop his punch and utilize his length better.
What’s his ceiling?
He has all of the tools to develop into one of the better tackles in college football and then eventually into a high NFL Draft pick. I don’t think he’s scratched the surface of where he’s going to be once he improves his technique and gets stronger.
He may never be a true mauler, but I see a lot of Ronnie Stanley in his game where he will win his athleticism over raw power. I think Stanley was a bit more advanced in his game before he got to Notre Dame, but the big thing with him was improvement every year. If Lambert follows that same path, he can become a high-level starter for multiple seasons.
