2024 Notre Dame Safety Target Davis Andrews Getting Closer To Decision

Davis Andrews‍ seems to be getting close to a decision and while Notre Dame hasn’t been pushing the 2024 Utah safety too much, the Irish are starting to apply some gentle, well-received nudges.

“They've always been supportive,” says Andrews. “Lately, they've started to push it more and be like, 'Come on, man. Let's commit.'”

Andrews has developed a very tight bond with Notre Dame Director of Recruiting Chad Bowden over the past year.

“Chad's like, 'You're already part of the family, you've been out so many times,’” Andrews recounts. “‘We've been talking for about a year now.'

“They're kind of just egging it on with me, but they're really good about it and don't really force anything.”

Bowden, safeties coach Chris O’Leary and head coach Marcus Freeman have all been very supportive.

“It's always been awesome,” says Andrews. “Chad just FaceTimes me whenever with Chris and Freeman just calls whenever. It's good and they've kept it up.”

In fact, not only have the Irish been OK with Andrews embarking on a Mormon mission between high school and college, they brought it up before he even could.

“The first day I showed up when I came out for the spring game, I didn't even say anything and they're like, 'We know you're an LDS kid. We're really supportive of it,' which was actually really surprising,” says Andrews.

“That's been awesome and I've talked to them about it. There's not really much negative. I know the missions are looked down on, but since I'm more on the younger side for '24s, it just gives me a year and a half to really mature, even grow more possibly.”

Andrews took official visits to Notre Dame, UCLA, Utah and BYU over the offseason and looks to be getting to the end of the process.

“I feel like I'm kind of narrowing down and getting to it right now,” he says.

He could hit games at the in-state schools or even UCLA, but isn’t sure yet. He is sure that he’ll be back in South Bend for the Ohio State game in September.

“I already have flights booked,” he says. “I'm really just excited to get out there because calls can get boring sometimes. I'm just ready to be back in South Bend and see a game atmosphere.

“I just want to come out to the game and after that I think I'll have a good mindset, especially coming out one more time, and seeing a game atmosphere, I think I'll be ready to know after that and be able to lock in other decisions.”

American Fork’s High School squad opened its 2023 season with a 42-14 win a couple weeks ago and backed that up with a 24-20 victory this past Friday.

“To be honest, the team goal is to win a state championship,” says Andrews. “Most kids say that, but I would say it really is. It's my last year with my boys, so we're all having fun and that's the goal and nothing less.”

Andrews is extremely confident in his squad’s defense and thinks they’ll be in good shape of the offense does what he knows it can do, and he’s putting some of that responsibility on himself.

“I just want to do as much as I can,” he said. “I'm playing wide receiver. I want 15 touchdowns this year and on the defensive side, I want 50 tackles and 10 turnovers and just do as much as I can.

“I know people are trying to stay away from me, so it's kind of hard as a safety sometimes to make plays, but whatever opportunities come, I just want to excel on them.”
