According to his high school coach, Dezmon Briscoe can be as good as he wants to be.

The 2025 Indianapolis forward has early offers from schools like Iowa, Cincinnati and Butler and Crispus Attucks head basketball coach Chris Hawkins expects Briscoe’s recruitment to blow up in the months and years to come.

“He started all games as a freshman, just learning how to be physical and play down low,” says Hawkins.

The 6-foot-8, 215-pounder averaged a double-double as a sophomore with 15 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks per game. He was named the city’s co-Player of the Year with five-star 2023 center Xavier Booker, who is now at Michigan State.

“A kid who can handle the ball, stretch out, shoot threes,” Hawkins continues. “He's really just scratching the surface with his potential and his ability. We're expecting big things this year.”

Hawkins says Briscoe has “an abundance of potential.”

“It's just finding that consistency with doing it every day with the motor,” the coach says. It's just now doing it consistently every game, not just when you play the Bookers or Zane Doughty's or the highly-ranked teams.

“Bringing it consistently, so that's going to be his thing. If he does that, he'll write his own ticket to wherever he wants to go.”

Briscoe is set to visit Notre Dame for the Ohio State football game next month.

“He's a special player and that's why he has the opportunity to go up and visit Coach (Ryan) Owens, Coach (Micah) Shrewsberry,” Hawkins says. “They've all come out and watched him and talked about how much they like him, how much his skillset fits what they want to do.

“Shrewsberry plays that small ball five, so putting Dez in those situations because he can shoot and stretch the floor, handle it and be a mismatch against other opposing bigs. He's a jack of all trades, but like I said, just want to get that consistency and that motor to be 24/7. I think the sky's the limit.”

Briscoe’s interest in the Irish is genuine, especially with the program’s strong in-state ties.

“I think it's high with what Coach Shrewsberry and the staff did at Penn State and then what he's going to do,” Hawkins says of Briscoe’s interest in Notre Dame. “In fact, there's a couple players, Micah (Shrewsberry) Logan (Imes), who were within the Indiana Elite program who are up at Notre Dame, so Dezmon's familiar with them.

“It's just really getting up there, seeing the campus. It'll be his first time for football game, seeing the campus and just being able to sit down and talk with the coaches. He's excited about it. He has high interest in the program.”
