2025 DE Austin Alexander Talks Notre Dame Return, Offer
After multiple visits to Notre Dame last year, Austin Alexander returned to South Bend on Saturday, but this time, the 2025 Kentucky defensive lineman came with an offer from the Irish in hand.
Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington delivered the offer during a phone call with Alexander on Wednesday.
“He just loves my growth and my progression from my freshman year to my sophomore year and then to this year, how I've been flying around and how I put on a lot of good weight and he just loves being able to put on that weight and just still moving around even better than I have before,” Alexander says.
His offer sheet also includes schools like Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, North Carolina, Louisville, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Illinois among others.
Still, the offer from the Irish is something special.
“It means a lot,” Alexander says. “My father went to Notre Dame, so just growing up, going to the games, it's just really cool to have that as a consideration. It was just such a blessing.”
The 6-foot-3, 242-pounder enjoyed his return to South Bend for the Irish’s home opener against Tennessee State.
“It was a lot of fun,” he says. “I got to get back on campus. All of the coaches were showing a lot of love. I got to meet up with the commits and stuff.”
The coaches were particularly impressed with Alexander’s physique.
“They just loved all the good weight that I've put on and just showing that even with the weight, I've still got a lot of speed on the field, even more speed,” he says. “They're just talking about loving my film that they've seen and they're so happy that they got to see me back on campus and want me to come back up for Ohio State and continue this recruitment going.”
Alexander, who is also planning to visit Clemson, Kentucky, Illinois, Purdue and North Carolina this season, is going to see if he can get back again in a few weeks.
He enjoyed getting to meet some of the other visiting recruits who have already committed to Notre Dame.
“It was cool,” he says. “They were all super down to earth, super chill and they seemed very intelligent actually.
“I was just asking them, 'Why'd you commit and what makes you think this is the place?' They were very straightforward, and they had a lot of great things to say and they're just cool to get to know.”
Alexander expects to make a final decision either next January or next June.
And he has a good idea of what will matter most when that time comes.
“It's going to be the relationships that I build and have going in because every place really has the same facilities and same pitches, but really my relationship is what's going to make me want to be there and build for the next four years.”
