Mason Alexander‍ was urged to check out Notre Dame, so on Saturday, the 2025 Indiana cornerback did just that, making the trip up to South Bend for the Irish’s home opener against Tennessee State.

“I loved it,” the 6-foot, 160-pounder told Irish Sports Daily afterward.

“I loved the environment. I loved the culture about it.”

Alexander already has offers from schools like Auburn, Florida, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Pitt, Indiana and Purdue among others.

He had the chance to experience a taste of Notre Dame.

“We sat down and ate for a minute and then we got to see the team, we got to see the players warm up,” he said. “Then, they took us to our seats. We got to see the band. It was nice.”

Prior to the game, Alexander was able to have quick conversations with head coach Marcus Freeman and cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens.

Alexander said Freeman was focused.

“He was locked in,” Alexander said. “He didn't really say a lot, but he just said we'll be in touch.”

Mickens was locked in as well, but Alexander was able to get a preview of what to expect during the game.

“I really just asked him, what kind of offense did the opposing team run?” Alexander recalled. “He told me it was just Spread.

“I was just saying, "What are we going to do? What's going to be the score tonight?' He said, 'We just going to blow them out the water.'”

The Irish did just that with a 56-3 victory.

“It wasn't surprising, let's be honest,” Alexander said. “But for my first Notre Dame game, it was a good experience.”

Alexander said he could see himself in the Irish defense.

“Of course,” he said. “Coming down and hitting, that's what I'm a good fit for.”

The Hamilton Southeastern High School standout was encouraged to check out Notre Dame in part by his teammate and current Irish offensive line commit Styles Prescod.

Alexander will head to Cincinnati in a couple of weeks, but looks forward to remaining in touch with the Irish.

“I just want to connect with the coaches more, get a better relationship with Coach Freeman, the corners coach and hopefully be back for another game.”
