Chris Burgess‍ has been a regular in South Bend this year, which is why - despite his team having a game of its own that afternoon - it was no surprise to see the 2025 Chicago defensive end at Notre Dame for the Irish’s game against Ohio State on Saturday night.

“I loved everything,” said Burgess, who was making his fifth visit to Notre Dame this year.

Burgess said “the atmosphere of the game” stood out as much as anything during this trip.

The Simeon star didn’t speak to a ton of recruits, but he did talk to some, including 2025 quarterback commit Deuce Knight‍.

“He was saying Notre Dame is the place to be,” Burgess said of Knight.

Burgess also spoke with Marcus Freeman, Al Golden and Al Washington, who echoed that sentiment.

“Same thing, Notre Dame is the place to be,” Burgess said of the message from the coaches.

Despite the three-point loss to the Buckeyes, Burgess was impressed with how the Irish performed.

“I think Notre Dame played real well until it came down to the final second,” he said.

Asked whether the loss impacts the way he looks at Notre Dame, Burgess answered flatly.

“It doesn't,” he said.

Burgess has seen plenty of Notre Dame during his several trips down this year, but said he “definitely” plans on returning again, although he didn’t say when.

With most of his own games on Saturdays, making too many visits will be difficult, but Burgess has a pair of other visits already locked in.

“Next week, I'm going to go to Colorado to see the USC game,” he said. “And then, I'm going to Michigan for the Ohio State game.”

He plans to cut his list down after the season.

Asked if the Irish had helped themselves with the latest visit, Burgess said, “100 percent.”
