It’s October 1st and Notre Dame’s College Football Playoff hopes almost ended in September as the Fighting Irish escaped No. 17 Duke 21-14 on Saturday night. 

Entering the year, it was easy to point to the trip to Duke as a trap game as it followed Ohio State. When Marcus Freeman walked off the field at Notre Dame Stadium last week, it immediately turned the Duke game into a must-win.
