2025 LB Brett Clatterbaugh Set for Notre Dame Return with Family
The 2023 season is going pretty well for 2025 Eastern View High School (Va.) linebacker Brett Clatterbaugh as he’s led his team to a perfect 6-0 record.
Clatterbaugh has noticed an improvement in his game as a junior in limited reps as Eastern View has beaten three teams by over 40 points. The four-star prospect has recorded 10 catches for 228 yards and five touchdowns on offense, but also 26 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks on the defensive side of the ball.
“The stats aren’t quite there like they were last year, but we’ve blown more teams out this year,” Clatterbaugh told ISD. “I’ve played one quarter in quite a few games and two quarters in a few games.
“I feel the biggest thing I lacked last year was my pass game - my zone drops and stuff like that. Throughout the year, I’ve been challenged by playing a little cornerback and safety to match up with the other team’s best guys. I challenged myself and I’ve gotten a lot better in that aspect.”
The four-star prospect is also one of the nation’s best wrestlers, so it’s not a shock to see the nation’s top programs flock to Virginia to the Eastern View standout.
Notre Dame is one of those schools and Clatterbaugh will be back on campus this weekend for the USC game.
“I wanted to get back up there because I really like the school and the staff,” said Clatterbaugh, who was on campus for a spring practice. “Notre Dame is up there on my list of schools. I wanted to make sure I saw a game day environment.
“The last time I was up there, it was just me and my dad, but this time we’re bringing the whole family. They’re going to get the opportunity to see everything Notre Dame has to offer.”
It’s an important visit for Clatterbaugh and Notre Dame as the Virginia native wants his family to experience his top schools.
“At the end of the day, it’s my decision,” explained Clatterbaugh. “I want them to be 100 percent comfortable and trust the school I pick. My family getting the chance to see the schools is important to me.”
Notre Dame’s staff has been very involved here as Clatterbaugh has developed strong relationships with several coaches and staffers in South Bend, which will only get stronger following this weekend’s visit.
“I talk to Chad (Bowden), Carter (Auman), Caleb (Davis), Max (Bullough) and Coach (Al) Golden,” stated Clatterbaugh. “I’m talking to a lot of them. I love Chad. He’s my guy and he’s funny. There’s some great personalities in college football, but Chad is definitely a unique guy.”
As for his recruitment, Clatterbaugh has made three visits and one more on the schedule outside of the trip to Notre Dame.
“I’ve been to Georgia, Penn State and Virginia Tech,” Clatterbaugh said. “I’ll be at Notre Dame this weekend and then on November 4th, I’ll be at Clemson to watch them play Notre Dame. Those are my five visits this fall.”
Clatterbaugh isn’t in decision mode and plans to take his time, but he does have an idea of when he’d like to make his commitment.
“I’ll take my official visits in June, so probably around that time,” said Clatterbaugh. ‘I’ll definitely be committing before my senior year. I want to really focus that year on the school I’m committing to and preparing myself to play at the next level.”
