2025 DB Trey McNutt Impressed With Latest Trip To Notre Dame
Notre Dame’s dominating win over USC on Saturday night certainly stood out to Trey McNutt III.
The 2025 Ohio defensive back was in attendance for the Irish’s 48-20 victory.
“It was good,” the 6-foot, 180-pounder told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “They did their job.”
It was a packed day for McNutt and the other visiting recruits.
“I got there, went to the indoor facility and we watched a hype video and stuff,” McNutt recalled. “It was real cool. We walked over to the field, then went into pregame. It was just crazy seeing them warm up.”
During warmups, the Shaker Heights High School star had the chance to meet some of the sport’s most well-known characters, including Jerome Bettis and Urban Meyer.
“Man, it was real cool,” McNutt said. “It was exciting, especially getting to actually talk to them and meet them. It was real cool.”
It’s still unclear if McNutt will end up playing safety or corner at the next level. He doesn’t have a strong preference, but admits he’s leaning toward corner at the moment.
While in South Bend, he spoke with cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens and safeties coach Chris O’Leary before the game.
“They were just saying how they were ready to play and I was there to watch,” said McNutt.
“Their defense really, really stepped up. They had three picks, two forced fumbles. #0, he was just going crazy.”
That performance says a lot to McNutt, who has dozens of offers from schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Kentucky and USC.
“It really tells me their defense is something and they actually showed me that when I was there,” he said. “Notre Dame, I know they're going to be with me for a while.”
McNutt plans to hit Ohio State and Michigan in the coming weeks, but says he’d like to return to South Bend sometime after the season.
“This experience is going to keep Notre Dame in my head. I haven't made a chart yet for real, but they'll most likely be a top 10 for me.”
