Notre Dame CB Cam Hart Focused on Interceptions Over NFL Decision

Notre Dame cornerback Cam Hart has turned into one of the nation’s top cornerbacks after arriving in South Bend as a receiver in 2019.

It’s been a quick five years and Hart will now be faced with deciding on leaving Notre Dame after five years or returning for a sixth season and a chance to be a two-time captain.

Hart has started the process of obtaining information and taking advice from his inner circle as he’ll have his final decision after the season.

“Who knows,” Hart stated this week. “We'll make that decision after the next two games. I just want to focus on those two games. I spent a lot of time on the bye week having those conversations, talking to my family. I promised myself that I'm just going to focus on this game and focus on Stanford, and then go from there.”

Hart, who has only allowed 11 completions in 2023, is well aware of where he stands in the eyes of NFL scouts entering the final two regular season games.

“Yes, many conversations surrounding where I stand in terms of the NFL,” said Hart.”I have a general idea.”

The 6-foot-2, 207-pounder believes he’s having the best season of his career as he’s tallied 15 tackles, three tackles for loss and forced three fumbles, but Hart is focused on a specific goal to finish the 2023 campaign.

“I've gotta get some interceptions, right,” laughed Hart. “I have to.”

Regardless of whether Hart gets that interception, Notre Dame has benefited from his leadership and ability to show the younger players how to be a college football player on a daily basis.

“I definitely feel that whether the interceptions are there or now —  me as a leader, me as a person, emotionally, mentally and then obviously my play on the field.

“I think that goes hand in hand with what I'm doing in the field this year. I would love to get interceptions.”

Entering the year, Notre Dame’s secondary had the chance to be one of the best in the country and through 10 games, the Irish have backed it up.

Notre Dame sits at No. 3 in passing efficiency and holds the same ranking in passing yards per game at 153.6. The Irish are also No. 3 in the country in interceptions.

Hart downplayed Notre Dame’s success, but when he does have a moment to sit back and recap the year, it will likely be a season he takes a great deal of pride in.

“I haven't had much time to be proud of it yet,” explained Hart. “I haven't had much time to focus on that. Just taking it one game at a time, continuing to try to be the best group that we could possibly be. I guess at the end of the season, one day, I'm gonna look back, that's when I'm gonna be able to be proud and happy about what we've put together this season.”
