WR Braylon James Will Enter Transfer Portal After Year One at Notre Dame
Notre Dame freshman receiver Braylon James announced he will head to the Transfer Portal after one season in South Bend.
“Thank you for taking me in and embracing me since day 1,” stated James in a statement. “This past year in South Bend I’ve learned so mich about what it means to be a man of integrity, character, and nobility. To Coach Freeman, Stuckey, and the rest of the Notre Dame staff, thank you for nourishing me and treating me with the utmost respect every day.
“After long thought and prayer, I have decided to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal to find a new home.
“Once again, Irish Nation, thank you for letting me be ap art of this amazing culture. Notre Dame will always hold a special place in my heart, yet I look forward to my next opportunity.”
The Texas native is the third Notre Dame receiver to depart the program as Chris Tyree will play his fifth year elsewhere and sophomore Tobias Merriweather announced his intentions to enter the portal earlier on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder appeared in four games in 2023 and recorded one catch for 12 yards against Pitt. In total, James played 22 snaps in an Irish uniform.
Coming out of high school, James was a consensus four-star prospect who chose Notre Dame over Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford, TCU, Texas and Texas A&M.
James will be the first departure of Notre Dame’s five-man 2023 receiver haul as Jaden Greathouse, Rico Flores Jr., KK Smith and Jordan Faison are set to return to the Irish program.
