It’s been a busy week for Notre Dame as several players have entered or announced plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Freshman receiver Rico Flores Jr. is the latest to announce his plans to enter the Transfer Portal and it’s the first true hit to the Notre Dame program.

“I want to take this time to thank the University of Notre Dame,” stated Flores in a statement. “Thank you to my family, Coach Stuckey, Coach Freeman, the staff, support staff, media staff, the community and everyone who helped me along this journey. Thank you for taking a chance on a kid from Sacramento, California, who had a dream to make it out.

“After prayer, careful consideration, and many conversations I have decided to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal to find a new home.

“Once again, thank you to the University of Notre Dame, fans and community. I look forward to my next opportunity.”

The 6-foot, 205-pounder played in all 12 games while making two starts as a true freshman in 2023. Flores was a bright spot in the Irish offense as he flashed his potential by reeling in 27 receptions for 392 yards and one touchdown on the year.

Flores made a statement against Wake Forest as he hauled in eight catches for 102 yards as he became the first Notre Dame receiver to record 100 yards receiving since 2021.

He also led all receivers with 404 snaps played. Flores’ biggest play game in week five as he caught a touchdown against Ohio State to put the Irish ahead with 8:22 left in the game.

As a recruit, Flores chose Notre Dame over Georgia and Ohio State.
