Notre Dame has an obvious need to fill via the transfer portal at receiver and they currently have a target on campus visiting.

Former FIU WR Kris Mitchell was first team Conference USA in the 2023 season after setting a record for the most receiving yards in a single season in the history of FIU football surpassing T.Y. Hilton. An outside receiver, he has great speed and would be a contender to start on the field if he chooses Notre Dame.

- Best single season in FIU history

- tied for 15th in YAC per reception, has even more potential after the catch in a different scheme

- didn’t run a diverse route tree at FIU

- 80 yard reception vs Arkansas, 157 total in their only Power 5 match up

- Can play above the rim and high point the football

- good body control, able to win contested

- ran a 10.92 100m in junior year of high school, 21.99 200m

- reported 4.4 40 at FIU

- not a great blocker, but no lack of effort

- quick feet, nice releases off the line

- tough time overcoming the jam vs physical boundary CBs

- reliable hands, 4.5% drop rate

- only 3 drops on 100 targets

- 10th in receptions of 30+ yards

Mitchell would be a solid addition to the roster. He could struggle against bigger, more physical corners on Notre Dame’s schedule, but he’ll be asked to line up on the boundary much less than he did at FIU.

I don’t see him being the same go-to player as he was at FIU, but his experience as their WR1 is extremely valuable. He would immediately upgrade the speed of Notre Dame’s outside receivers and has the potential to be a deep ball threat.
