In the end, Kris Mitchell‍ chose Notre Dame for one simple reason.

“I chose ND because I want to win and there’s no place better than Notre Dame to win at,” said Mitchell, who announced he was headed to Notre Dame as a graduate transfer from Florida International last week.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder will have one year of eligibility left following a four-year career at FIU, where he caught 100 balls for 1,663 yards and 12 touchdowns. He did the bulk of his work this past season, catching 64 passes for 1,118 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.

He announced his commitment to the Irish following a visit to South Bend last weekend.

“The visit went great,” Mitchell told ISD. “The weather felt nice. It’s been crazy always being in the heat, so it feels good to be in a chilly location.

“I got to eat all day, But I got to see the facility and the stadium and the housing.”

The Notre Dame staff certainly made a positive impression.

“The coaches showed a tremendous amount of love and it felt like a place I could see myself at for the next year,” he said.

“The coaches told me how I would be inputted into the offense and how I would help lead the team to a national championship.”

Mitchell said he “had a feeling” that former Duke quarterback Riley Leonard might be announcing his decision to transfer to Notre Dame on Tuesday and the receiver is fired up he did.

“Very excited,” Mitchell said. “I can’t wait to catch balls from him out in South Bend.”

And that’s exactly what he’ll be doing as Mitchell says he isn’t entertaining any other schools.

“No other visits planned. I'm fully committed.”
