THOUGHTS

The Hoyas and Irish are in similar places as both programs have first year head coaches looking to rebuild broken program - and having a tough go at it. In eight combined games against major conference teams, Notre Dame and Georgetown own one win as the Irish beat Oklahoma State in overtime.

Perhaps the biggest news of the game will likely be known in the moments leading up to the game as Ed Cooley stated his leading scorer, Jayden Epps, was 50-50 on even making the trip to South Bend as he missed Tuesday’s game with an illness.

If Epps can’t go, it would be a big win for Micah Shrewsberry as Epps leads the Big East in scoring at 18.9 points per game. That said, the Hoyas have three other players averaging in double figures, including Dontrez Styles at 15.7 ppg, and then two other players at over 9.0 ppg compared to Notre Dame having only Markus Burton averaging in double digits.

As it relates to Notre Dame, Saturday will be telling as a week has passed since the Irish were embarrassed at Marquette. Shrewsberry’s team has had time to digest the loss, learn from it and simply move on.

Notre Dame didn’t have media availability this week, so it will be interesting to see how the young Irish respond as they have just two more games after Georgetown before ACC play begins with Virginia coming to South Bend on December 30th.
