2024 OL Signee Peter Jones Ready To Report To Notre Dame
Peter Jones says it “feels awesome” to have National Signing Day behind him.
“It's definitely a dream of mine to play college football, so for that to be official now, it feels almost surreal,” said the Pennsylvania offensive lineman who signed with Notre Dame as a member of the 2024 recruiting class on Wednesday.
“It's almost a weight lifted off my shoulders a little bit now that it's official.”
Prior to signing, Jones hosted Irish head coach Marcus Freeman, offensive line coach Joe Rudolph and others for an “awesome” in-home that wasn’t truly an “in-home visit.”
“That was actually at my school,” the Malvern Prep standout said. “We decided to do the visit at my school because I wanted to have a lot of my teachers and coaches there and since it was during the day, they wouldn't have been able to come to my house for that.
“So, we ended up just having it at my school, which then allowed all my teachers and all my coaches to be there. I wanted them to experience it as well. It was a really great experience for them to meet everyone who's impacted me each in their own individual ways. It was a really, really cool experience.”
Jones has always placed an emphasis on “relationships and how you interact with others.”
“I've made it my goal to able to have really good relationships with all of them, which has then helped me learn better in the classroom and then on the coaches' side of it, be able to take in more knowledge and then therefore play better on the field,” he said. “I just feel it was key to have the people who really helped me throughout my high school journey be there to experience that as well.”
He’s already built such a connection with Rudolph and is excited to see that grow over the next few years.
“It's awesome,” he said of his relationship with his future offensive line coach. “He's definitely someone who I can't wait to play for. Definitely someone who I want to learn a lot from, all the ins and outs and whatnot.
“He's a really great guy, super excited for him to be the coach. I'm just really excited for all the future will hold.”
Jones will arrive in South Bend as an early enrollee in a couple of weeks.
“I'm really excited for it,” he said. “I've really been looking forward to it since they first mentioned last year, 'Hey, is there a chance you're going to want to do this?'
“At first, I actually wasn't. Then thinking more about it, I just had that feeling, 'You know what? I feel like I'm kind of ready for it. I feel like I'm kind of done with high school in a sense,' and I wanted to start the next chapter.”
