2026 OL Carter Scruggs Ready To See Notre Dame
Carter Scruggs was on Notre Dame’s radar, which is what led the Irish to stop by Loudoun County High School during the contact period.
“A couple months ago, Coach Al Golden was at my school and really liked me,” the 2026 Virginia offensive lineman told Irish Sports Daily.
Then, Notre Dame sent Irish offensive line coach Joe Rudolph out to Leesburg, Va.
“He also really liked me,” the 6-foot-6, 280-pound Scruggs said. “They wanted to keep the process going and invited me up to Notre Dame.”
So, Scruggs will make his way to South Bend for an unofficial visit on March 23rd.
“They have a lot to offer that checks the boxes of what I want; great football program, really good academics,” Scruggs said. “I'm excited to see the facilities and all the coaches. I'm just really excited.
Scruggs doesn’t have an offer from the Irish yet, but he does have offers from Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Duke, Penn State and Pitt among others.
“They all like how physical I am and they like how athletic I am,” he said of the colleges.
Scruggs also has spring visits set to NC State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Penn State, Maryland and West Virginia. He’s already made trips to Penn State, West Virginia and Virginia Tech and enjoyed himself.
He’s hoping to return to Virginia when he can.
“I really liked it when I went for my spring visit,” he said.
Still, he acknowledged Notre Dame as one trip he’s truly looking forward to.
“This is probably the one I'm most excited for,” he said. “Just something about Notre Dame, I just really like it. A lot of my favorite players have played there. I really, really like Joe Alt.
It’s early and Scruggs remains open, but he does know what he’ll be looking for when it comes time to pick one school over the rest.
“How can they develop me and do I like the coaches? Do I like the area? Do they have a good academic program for me? How much support do I get? There's a lot that goes into it.”
