Brandon Finney‍ already had some big-time offers by the time one came from Notre Dame, but the scholarship from the Irish certainly caught the 2025 Maryland athlete’s attention.

After communicating with Notre Dame Director of High School Scouting Dre Brown on Twitter, Finney, Brown and Irish receivers coach Mike Brown got in touch.

“We hopped on a call and I eventually got in contact with Coach Brown, the receivers coach, and then he informed me of the offer,” Finney says.

Finney added the Notre Dame offer to a list that already included schools like Georgia, Penn State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Oregon among others.

“I know I already had some big-time offers, but Notre Dame definitely stood out for me, mainly because I knew a whole bunch about the school, obviously being a great school academically and athletically,” he says. “I was really excited to get that offer.”

Both Dre Brown and Mike Brown made strong initial impressions as well.

“I really do like both Coach Browns,” says Finney. “The receivers coach, I could definitely see myself being coached by him. Then, Coach Dre Brown is just a great person. I liked them both.

“They were talking about how they're kind of deviating from the past, whereas now they're running more of a spread concept. They were saying that they wanted to bring in speed and they said they really liked my film. My speed and watching my film are the main reasons they wanted to offer.”

Finney already has a date to get to South Bend - March 25th - and could return after that.

“If the practice goes well, I may head up there for an OV,” he says.

“I'm definitely looking to see how the program works, especially the player development, how they're being coached and what standards they've set at Notre Dame within the football facility.”

In addition to the stop in South Bend, Finney has trips planned this spring to Penn State, South Carolina, Georgia, Maryland and Oregon.

After that round of visits, he’ll narrow his list for official visits and expects to make a final decision sometime around July.

“Honestly, it's going to be my relationships with those coaches and how I like those coaches because you've got to think about it, those are the coaches that I'm going to be with for the next four years. So, who do I trust to develop me and who do I have a great relationship with to where I would want to be coached by them.”
