2025 LB Gavin Nix Excited For Notre Dame Return
Gavin Nix will tell you, Notre Dame has picked up its pursuit of the 2025 IMG linebacker in a major way this year.
“Heavy, man,” Nix says of the interest from the Irish. “Coach (Marcus) Freeman came down here in January, had great conversations with him and ever since then, it's been picking up.
“We've been talking multiple times a week and building a great relationship.”
The Irish offered the 6-foot, 225-pounder a scholarship last year, but it’s obvious they’re making him a bigger priority of late and Nix sees plenty of potential positives with Notre Dame, starting with the coaches.
“Obviously with Coach Freeman playing linebacker at very high level,” he says. “You've got Coach (Max) Bullough, who just recently got done playing and then you've got Coach (Al) Golden who has a great understanding of the game. So I'd have three defensive, linebacker-minded guys who I can gain knowledge from if I were to go to Notre Dame.”
Nix is convinced he’d be developed well in South Bend, which he says is “huge” in his decision, but there’s more.
“While doing that, I'll be somewhere that I can really invest my time off the field, setting up myself for the next 40 years of my life,” he says. “It's a very prestigious school. You have great connections, great alumni, and obviously the worth of the degree that people have who come out of Notre Dame is tremendous.
“That's really the main message from Coach Golden, and that's something that really attracting me to Notre Dame.”
Nix visited South Bend last April and is set to return March 24th and 25th.
“I want to major in Communication, so there are a few questions I want to ask about that,” he says. “I know the school has a great Business School. I'm also interested in Business, so I want to most definitely ask a few questions on how the school is in that, talk to a few of the guys who are there, hopefully a few of the guys who came through that program, how they're doing now and things of that nature.
“That'll be pretty much the main thing. I've talked a lot of ball with those guys. Last spring, I actually went to a scrimmage, not a practice, so I guess that'll be something a little bit different football-wise that I'll be looking forward to seeing.”
Nix has a couple other trips set and expects to add more.
“I have Miami April 6th and then I have Oregon April 12th,” he says. “That's what I have locked in right now, but I know that list will probably expand, probably go to two other schools the spring.”
From there, Nix expects to be working toward a final decision.
“After springtime, I'll be setting up all my OVs. I want to go ahead and knock all my OVs out in the summertime and I want to commit right before my season so I won't have to be worrying about recruiting during my season.”
