Dowell Recaps Notre Dame Visit

2018 St. Edward (Ohio) defensive back Michael Dowell had been wanting to get a deeper look at Notre Dame for quite some time, and the four-star prospect finally got to South Bend on Friday.

“The visit went really well,” the 6-foot, 195-pounder told Irish Sports Daily. “I met a lot of good people, great coaches, and I got to spend time with people who turned out to be really honest. They gave me the truth and a good picture of what Notre Dame is all about.”

Dowell arrived on campus just after Friday’s practice concluded and just in time to eat before he started a busy day.

“We had breakfast, and then I got to see The Gug,” Dowell explained. “After that, we got on a Go-cart with a hostess and toured the campus. We saw how much tradition Notre Dame has and it was impressive. It opened my eyes to what kind of school Notre Dame is.

“After the tour, I got to speak to the coaches and the academic advisors. I got to try on the jerseys and go to where they play on Saturday’s.”

The Ohio native has been on multiple campuses, but Notre Dame’s stuck out to him.

“I have never been to another campus that has been like that,” stated Dowell. “The buildings are built differently than everywhere else. The way people talked and interact with me, it felt like home.”

While in South Bend, Dowell got a chance to catch up with a family friend and former teammate, Shaun Crawford.

“I had lunch with Shaun,” said Dowell. “We just talked about how he was doing, and it was good seeing how he was doing.”

Dowell’s two older brothers play at Michigan State and were in Crawford’s class at St. Edward. The families have grown close, and Crawford is someone Dowell goes to for advice.

“Shaun is probably my brothers best friend,” stated Dowell. “Honestly, about a week ago, I texted Shaun, and I wanted to get his thoughts on Notre Dame and how it’s a little different experience than other schools.

“He was honest with me, and he told me it was almost exactly like at St. Ed’s.”

Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest are just a few of the schools that have offered the St. Ed’s star. Notre Dame didn’t jump in the race on Friday, but they will be keeping close tabs on Dowell over the next few months.

“They want to see me keep working and getting better each day,” Dowell said. “They want to see me play more safety too. I did appreciate the honesty and ability to communicate a clear message.”

Dowell will take part in The Opening regionals in Cleveland on April 9th. Michigan State will get a visit from Dowell at some point this spring, but his schedule is pretty open for other visits.

“I haven’t made a list or set dates yet,” said Dowell.
