Maddy Westbeld Returning to Notre Dame
Notre Dame and Niele Ivey got a significant boost toward the success of the 2024-25 campaign as Maddy Westbeld announced she would return for a fifth season.
Now, it wasn’t a huge surprise as the WNBA had passed with the draft being held on April 15th, but Westbeld’s official announcements gives the Irish momentum into a big offseason.
The 6-foot-3 forward scored 14.4 ppg and pulled down a career-high 8.7 rpg last season. After tallying nine double-doubles in her first three seasons at Notre Dame, Westbeld recorded 12 double-doubles in 23-24.
Westbeld also dominated the postseason honors as she was named 2024 Second Team All-ACC, 2024 All-ACC Tournament First Team, WBCA All-America Coaches Honorable Mention and Katrina McClain Award Top 10.
In addition to her wealth of experience of starting all 120 games of her career, the Ohio native will bring career totals of 1,550 points, 881 rebounds and 229 assists back to Notre Dame.
It will be only a matter of time before Westbeld enters the top 10 in career scoring as No. 10 is Jacqueline Batteast at 1,874 points. She will also have a chance to leave Notre Dame as the program’s all-time leading rebounder, as Brianna Turner sits at No. 1 with 1,048 career rebounds.
Westbeld’s return will also give the roster stability as guard KK Bransford and forward Nat Marshall entered the Transfer Portal earlier this month.
