Game Thread | Notre Dame Blue-Gold Game
Blue vs. Gold
Notre Dame Stadium | 1:00 PM ET | Peacock
GAME FORMAT
- The game will be played with traditional scoring. There is no offense vs. defense scoring
system that has been used for some previous editions of the spring game.
- There will be four 15-minute quarters with normal timing in the first half. The second half
will feature a running clock and there is head coach discretion to return to normal clock
rules if the game score is close at the end.
- There will be one live kickoff to start the game. All other changes of possessions after a
score will be ball placement.
- The teams were drafted by members of the program on Thursday, April 20. There will
be some selected players who will wear green jerseys and can compete for both teams.
- There will be no punts in the game. If a team decides to punt, the ball will be moved 40
yards downfield, and possession of the ball will change.
- Field goals and PATs will be live.
FIVE PLAYERS TO WATCH
Vyper Boubacar Traore
Traore keeps impressing as a pass rusher and consistently found a way to get to the quarterback in last week's jersey scrimmage. He looks well on his way to finding a role in Notre Dame's third down package this season and he'll be going up against starting tackles, Charles Jagusah and Tosh Baker, in this game.
Receiver Jaden Greathouse
There have been a couple of receivers dealing with injuries this spring. Jordan Faison hasn't practiced because of lacrosse commitments and Beaux Collins won't be enrolled until June. That left a golden opportunity for Greathouse to step forward and he took full advantage of it. He's been the top receiver this spring and should shine in the Blue-Gold game.
Linebacker Kyngstonn Villiamu-Asa
The early enrollee has turned heads with how physically prepared he's been for the college game and has earned praise from coaches and older players with his ability to learn the defense. He has the making of a future star and has put himself in the mix to compete for playing time at linebacker as a true freshman.
Quarterback CJ Carr
Everyone falls in love with the "next guy" at quarterback and Carr isn't an exception. In terms of living up to the hype, Carr does appear to be an exception compared to some other recent highly ranked quarterbacks like Tyler Buchner and Phil Jurkovec. No one should overreact to a spring game performance, but it will be hard for fans to ignore if Carr has a big day.
Receiver KK Smith
Smith might have been a forgotten player in this game if everyone was available and healthy, but he's getting more reps because of the receivers who have missed time and he appears to be taking advantage of it. Look for the coaches to take a shot or two to Smith down the field to showcase his speed.
