2025 DL Aubrey Melvin Talks Notre Dame Visit, What's Next
After getting a look at Notre Dame for himself this weekend, Aubrey Melvin is expecting to see Irish defensive line coach Al Washington at Gwynn Park High School in a couple of weeks.
“It went good,” the 6-foot-4, 275-pounder told Irish Sports Daily of his visit for the spring game.
“I got to see the football facilities. Of course, I got to see the game and I got to meet the defensive coordinator. I got to meet Coach (Al) Washington. I got to meet Coach (Marcus) Freeman. I got to meet the whole staff.”
The 2025 Maryland defensive lineman was impressed with the campus.
“The facilities were real nice,” he said. “I got to watch the groundbreaking too. The new one they're talking about is going to be very tight. A lot of investment went into it.”
He also enjoyed the Blue-Gold Game.
“The game went good,” he said. “It was a real close game. The d-linemen were eating. I think #47 (Jason Onye) got like two sacks. It was a good game, especially for the d-line.”
Melvin’s offer sheet currently includes schools like Virginia Tech, Pitt and Boston College among others. The Irish haven’t offered just yet, but he’s clearly on their radar.
“I'm supposed to be seeing Coach Al in about two weeks at my school,” Melvin said. “They were giving me a lot of knowledge in general. He had a lot of good words for me and I'm expecting to see him very soon.”
He was impressed with the coaches.
“They're very good people,” he said. “It was good seeing them for the first time.”
Melvin doesn’t have any other visits set for the spring, saying his next trips will be official visits in the summer. He’s planning officials to Virginia Tech and Boston College, but after visiting South Bend, would welcome the opportunity to return on an official.
“I definitely want to come back. It was a very nice school.”
