Notre Dame isn’t certain to take another running back in the Class of 2025, but the Irish are certainly looking into that possibility.

That’s what led Deland McCullough to Jacksonville High School in North Carolina on Monday.

The Notre Dame running backs coach was there to check out 2025 running back Demon June Jr.

“He came by around lunchtime,” June said of McCullough. “We chopped it up just about his background and a little bit about getting the recruiting process started for me.”

McCullough told the 6-foot, 220-pound June about some of the places he’s coached and some of the players he’s helped while there.

“As far as running back coaches goes, it was pretty cool getting some gems from him,” June said. “He was a great guy. He knows what he's talking about.

“I look at him like one of those one-in-a-million type of guys who you don't come across often. He was real genuine and everything was just flat out nice about him.”

June currently has offers from schools like UConn, Appalachian State, Old Dominion, East Carolina, Toledo, Ohio and Wofford.

June ran through some drills for McCullough to show him what he could do on Monday, the first day the two sides have had any meaningful contact.

“I’m waiting for him to get back to me as far as the next step goes, but I hope all as well,” said June.

But the Irish showing interest alone was “big” for June.

“The name Notre Dame itself holds a lot of weight on the football field, so being that they're one of the schools that's looking at me, it shows that the hard work is finally paying off,” he said. “I just can't wait to show what I got.”

He’s hoping Notre Dame will like his vision and ability in the open field when they’re doing his evaluation. An offer from the Irish would be huge.

“That would mean the world to me,” he said. “I'm not going to lie. It'll show a lot as far as how far I've come as a player and not just a football player, but as a person.

June already has visits scheduled to East Carolina, Georgia Southern and Old Dominion.

He said he’d love to get to South Bend.

“Of course, who wouldn't want to visit Notre Dame?”

Then added, “But we won't speak too soon on it.”
