College coaches flocked to Bradenton, Fla., last week as powerhouse IMG Academy held its spring scrimmage.

Notre Dame was one school that didn’t make the trip last Monday, although the Irish had a great reason for being absent.

NCAA rules now limit colleges from visiting schools once during each open period and the Irish used their trip to IMG earlier in the spring.

“They came early, pretty sure it was the middle of last month they came,” top 2025 IMG linebacker prospect Gavin Nix‍ said of the Irish.

“It was good though because most of the coaches saved their one visit for Monday. With Notre Dame coming earlier, it allowed me to get a lot of individual time with them.”

Defensive coordinator Al Golden represented the Irish during the trip and was able to share his message with Nix.

“Really just his vision for me in the defense and how he can see the translation within my game and how I can be an impact on that defense, how I can go and help him out and make an early impact,” Nix said of Golden’s message.

“Just his vision that he has for me if I were to go play ball at Notre Dame. That was the main thing we talked about, and obviously the life after football opportunities.”

Nix owns a lengthy offer sheet that includes Notre Dame, Florida State, Miami, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Stanford, Texas and Texas A&M among several others.

Nix said he “most definitely” shares a similar vision to Golden, which is why he’s so serious about the Irish.

“Notre Dame is one of my highest contenders,” he said. “I really love those guys, really love what they're doing.”

Nix is still finalizing his official visit schedule, but said there’s a “pretty good chance” Notre Dame lands on the itinerary.

“I want to see the real step-by-step process in developing previous backers before me, obviously with that current staff, and like I said, their vision for me and the realness of the life after football opportunities,” he said.

Nix also listed Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, Stanford and Oregon among other top contenders.

He plans to wrap up his officials in June and hopes to have his fnal decision before the start of his senior season.
